Tracking Entities

During a playback or a recording, specific Entities can be track within the simulation. This can be useful for checking that Entities are behaving as expected or intended.

Displaying Entity Trails makes them even more distinctive. The length (and information thereby conveyed) of Entity Trails can be set in Tools > Options (see Setting the length of Entity Trails).

To select Entities to track:

  1. Click or select Playback > Play.
  2. When Entities that you want to track enter the simulation, click or select Playback > Pause.
  3. Select Entities by holding down the <Ctrl> key and dragging the cursor around them. Pan or zoom within the display to isolate required Entities.
    • Each selected Entity is now marked by a yellow crosshair.
    • To de-select Entities, hold down the <Shift> key and draw around them to remove their cross hairs.
  4. To display the “trails” of the tracked Entities, click or select Display > Tracked Entity Trails. This displays a coloured trail behind each of the Entities, which makes their pattern of progress easier to follow. Trail colour corresponds to Entity Type.
  5. Repeat step 3 for any other Entities that need to be tracked.
  6. Click or select Playback > Play to continue with the simulation.
  7. The number of tracked Entities is displayed in the Output Bar.

Tracking Entities by Filter

Specific Entities can be tracked by creating a tracking filter. To track Entities by filter:

  1. Click the Track Entities by Filter icon.
  2. Create a filter as described in Entering Advanced Filters.
  3. Click OK.
    • The software will automatically track any Entities that match the filter.
  4. To cancel the Entity tracking filter, tick the box labelled “Stop tracking entities which satisfy this filter”.
Tip: Tracking filter content is saved in the ANA file, for easy reactivation in future simulation or analysis sessions.
